Joseph P. Truncale, Ph.D., Stepping Down after 30-Year Career with the Association
To Become Chief Executive Officer of the Public Relations Society of America
East Rutherford, N.J. (October 13, 2014) â AMSP/NAPL/NAQP Chairman Tom Duchene today announced a transition of executive leadership at the combined association. Effective January 12, 2015, J. Kenneth Garner will become association Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Joseph P. Truncale, Ph.D., CAE. Truncale has announced his intention to step down at that time to become Chief Executive Officer of the New York City-based Public Relations Society of America. AMSP/NAPL/NAQP was created this year through the merger of the Association of Marketing Service Providers, National Association for Printing Leadership, and National Association of Quick Printers.
âWhile we are sad to see Joe go, we are delighted for him and know he will do well in his new organization. Â I speak for the entire Board of Trustees in offering my thanks for his dedicated leadership over the last 12 years and in expressing every confidence in Ken Garner as he takes the helm at this most important time in the history of our combined association,â said Duchene.
Garner became Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Marketing Service Providers (AMSP) in late 2008. He led the association, then named the Mailing and Fulfillment Service Association (MFSA), on a comprehensive re-branding initiative. That experience will stand him in good stead as AMSP/NAPL/NAQP embarks on a similar path.
âAs former President and Chief Executive Officer of AMSP, a former Chairman of NAPL, and former President of a major printing and mailing company, Ken is uniquely positioned to lead our association as we continue to bring together our resources in the service of all our members,â added Duchene.
During a 33-year career in the printing industry, Garner was previously President of United Litho, a Virginia-based heat-set web magazine printing company, where he held a variety of positions, including Vice President of Operations and Vice President of Sales and Marketing. HeÂ has expertise in package design and printing plant and mail house operations management, and has been a million-dollar print salesperson.
A member of the Executive Committee of the Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service, Garner Â has testified at a Congressional hearing on behalf of the industry, sits on a number of industry boards, and has an extensive background as a volunteer leader in the industry.
In addition to serving as Chairman of the Board of NAPL, he has been Chairman of the Graphic Arts Education & Research Foundation, Printing Industries of Americaâs Executive Development Program, and the Environmental Conservation Board. He is a member of the Walter E. Soderstrom Society and received the industryâs most prestigious honor, the Soderstrom Award, in 2002. He holds a B.A. degree from Randolph-Macon College.

When he steps down in January, Truncale will conclude a 30-year career with NAPL, which began in December 1984 when he was hired to become Director of Member Relations. Â He subsequently became NAPL Executive Vice President in 1991, and President and Chief Executive Officer in 2002.
